We personally recommend the six (6) hour tour which we ourselves have been on numerous times. This is Alaska’s most popular wildlife and glacier cruise! The day cruise departs from Seward and provides an in-depth experience of Kenai Fjords National Park’s abundant wildlife, alpine and tidewater glaciers. Alaska is famed for its fishing, but aside from salmon the marine life off the Alaskan coast thrives! A six (6) hour day cruise with Kenai Fjords tour group is the perfect way to experience it.
ALASKAN WILDLIFE
Already at the port you can often see the first wildlife … bald eagles and sea otters. If you take a look at the beautiful coast of Seward you can observe mountain goats and sea lions. After passing several fjords and hopefully seeing whales and dall porpoises along the way, you will arrive at a breathtaking glacier. The boat engine will be shut down in order for the you to better hear the calving of the ice and the loud cracks from deep within the valley. The blue mountain drops giant sheets of ice into the water where harbour seals and sea otters rest on floating shards of century old ice.
On your way back, you may yet again be accompanied by dall porpoises. Sometimes you can see humpback and orca whales and if you are lucky, you’ll get the possibility to see the 2nd largest animal in the world: the fin-whale. Harbour seals, sea lions and puffins are often seen. And on top of all of that, you will be served a Fisherman’s lunch on the boat followed by some of the best fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies you will ever have!However, since they do not include drinks in your lunch, you may want to take something along by yourself.
