FALL FISHING ADVENTURES: COHO SALMON
Autumn in Alaska
The fall fishing season is among our favorite here at Soldotna B&B Lodge primarily because of the plumb coho salmon, colorful foliage, and quiet seclusion. As the temperatures subtly dip and the leaves slowly sway to the Earth, the summer fishing crowds disperse. Despite less boat traffic and fewer anglers at our fall fishing lodge, you’ll still enjoy a friendly, communal atmosphere during your trip. Because the foliage is utterly breathtaking here on the Kenai Peninsula, many anglers combine their fall fishing trip with a canoeing, bear-viewing, or birding excursion.Coho Fishing
The coho fishing season typically lasts from August 1 through October 31 on both the Kenai and Kasilof River. You simply won’t find larger coho in Alaska than on these two peaceful rivers. Soldotna B&B Lodge is located along the banks of the teal Kenai River, so you’ll always be steps away from an autumn fishing excursion when you stay with us. Typically, our guides utilize four methods to reel in acrobatic coho salmon: back-bouncing, spin-casting, and two different types of back-trolling. Although complex to a beginner, these methods are like riding a bike once you get the hang of it. Don’t be surprised if we cross paths with hungry steelhead or rainbow trout during your mid-day excursion (depending on the location and your arrival date).All-Inclusive Fall Fishing Packages
Fall fishing trips last anywhere from six to 12 hours, depending on the day. Most anglers choose a convenient Kenai River launch, but we also offer drift boat trips along the nearby Kasilof. Our experienced, professional guides know these waters inside and out, so you’re in good hands! All bait, tackle, filleting, packaging, and freezing is included in every package. We also have complimentary rain gear and hip boots. Don’t forget to browse through our fall fishing packages to find one that perfectly suits your group’s size, style, and budget. If you have any questions, please call us today at 1-877-262-4779. Reminder: We still have limited availability in July. While fishing packages are going fast, there’s still plenty of time to book a well-deserved, spur-of-the-moment fishing trip to Soldotna, Alaska! Saltwater Salmon
Many Alaska fishing adventures are geared toward king salmon because of their sheer size. Successfully baiting, hooking, and reeling in a monster king is a feeling unlike any other – it’s a moment that’s often mounted on a wall or framed on a mantle. You don’t have to venture onto the Kenai or Kasilof rivers to battle a king, silver, or pink salmon as they’re teeming inside the sapphire blue waters surrounding Homer. We typically troll for salmon during these oceanic excursions, but we occasionally jig in our favorite honey holes.“Barn-Door” Halibut
Homer remains “The Halibut Fishing Capital of the World” as thousands of anglers trek to this faraway land to catch some of the largest flatfish in the world. While halibut weighing in over 200 pounds have been documented, we set our sights on those who weigh between 20 and 50 pounds. The halibut in this weight class are not only swarming inside Cook Inlet, but they’re the tastiest of the bunch. Bottom fishing is the method of choice in Cook Inlet, and we’ll be using baited hooks to lure these crafty flatfish.Rockfish and Black Bass and Lingcod, Oh My!
The ugliest fish in Cook Inlet near Homer are – without a doubt – the tastiest species in the sea. Rockfish can be quite beautiful when they’re small and bright orange, but the whoppers that are teeming in our waters frequently vary in size, color, and shape. You won’t find better table fare than a rockfish hooked inside Cook Inlet. Lingcod, meanwhile, are terrifying to most as their sharp teeth and unique scale patterns make them look like real-life monsters. While black bass are certainly not overly ugly, they’re quite large in comparison to most bass species found across North America.Mid-Summer Alaska Fishing Adventures

We still have limited availability this summer, especially for those aiming to visit us during the highly-anticipated silver salmon season! [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]MID-SUMMER ALAKSA FISHING VACATIONS ON THE Kenai River
Summer Catches: Fish of the Kenai River
Depending on when you arrive on the Kenai Peninsula, our guides will target three salmon species (king, sockeye, and silver) as well as trophy rainbow trout. First and foremost, most anglers who arrive between early May through July have massive king salmon on their minds. We especially recommend visiting us from mid-June through late July as you’ll get to battle kings, sockeyes, and rainbows! After you’ve reached your limits on salmon, you’ll have an opportunity to spend some time fly fishing for rainbow trout along the Kenai River’s shallow banks. Once the king season ends on the last day of July, the much-anticipated silver season begins. Silver salmon are known as the best pound-for-pound fighters in the salmonoid family – they put on quite an acrobatic show after they’ve taken the bait!- King salmon: May 1 – July 31
- Sockeye salmon: June 10 – August 15
- Silver salmon: August 1 – October 31
- Pink salmon: August (on even years)
- Rainbow trout: June 12 – October 31

MUSHROOM AND BERRY PICKING IN SOLDOTNA
Soldotna B&B in Soldotna, Alaska, offers more than just fishing, and you can also go mushroom and berry picking. You’ll find a variety of wild berries and mushrooms throughout the late summer season and well into the fall! You’ll enjoy searching the forests of Soldotna Alaska.
Berries
Soldotna Alaska is a terrific place to search and gather wild berries! Blueberries, raspberries, currants, salmonberries, and huckleberries, are great for eating right off the bush or making preserves! After harvesting your share of berries, you can eat them on your way back to Soldotna B&B, or save them for baking or preserves. If you are planning on freezing them, we’ll share our secret: Single layer the berries on a cookie sheet and freeze them. Then place them in a container and back into the freezer, this will make them easier to remove from the container. Please note that berries are an essential food source for a variety of animals in our area. There’s a chance you’ll encounter these animals while you’re berry picking, so please stay alert to your surroundings! If you see animals, we ask you to be respectful, while staying safe. If possible, we urge you to leave quietly and find a different berry patch. If needed, we do understand you may have to defend yourself with pepper spray or a shotgun.
Mushrooms
In Soldotna Alaska, the thrill of big game hunting runs deep in any Alaskan blood! However, today we’re focusing on a different prey: mushrooms! Near Soldotna B&B, you’ll find boletes, morels and gilled mushrooms, and many more. Mushroom hunting can be a dangerous business; some mushrooms are lethal to humans! One of the challenges with identifying mushrooms is that their appearance changes dramatically as they age. When it first comes out of the ground, a baby mushroom looks like one you may buy at the store! At this stage, it’s easy to confuse an edible species with a poisonous one. The number of mushroom species doesn’t help you identify them either. There are thousands of mushroom species in Alaska alone. Unfortunately, many are inedible, but we do have some mushroom hunters and the season is approaching! So, whether you find mushrooms or it’s just a reason to spend more time outside, join us in Soldotna Alaska!
RIVER, SEA, AND AIR!
When you stay with us at Soldotna B&B and Lodge, one of the most beautiful Kenai River fishing lodges. We offer an assortment of rates and packages. As spring turns into summer, we would like to feature our river, sea and air package.
What Is Included in This Package?
It’s a six-nights-stay that includes breakfast every morning and lunches for every activities day. Your schedule will be filled with hours of fishing! You will experience eight to eleven hour-days of fishing. An experienced guide will accompany you, and you will have a tackle, bait, and gear for charters. When you come back on-site, you will have access to all cleaning, commercial vacuum packing and freezing of your catch. Each guest also receives two fish shipping boxes and complimentary use of rain gear and hip boots for charters if needed.
Where’s the Fish?
Kenai River fishing is known worldwide for its abundance of fish and the enormous sizes they can grow. Though fish in the Kasilof River is somewhat smaller, they are still very abundant. It is an all-around quieter experience, as there are fewer people so you can fish peacefully. The Kenai and Kasilof Rivers have four out of the five species of Pacific Salmon that return to spawn each season in Alaska, as well as rainbow trout, Dolly-Varden, and Steelhead. Peak times for Rainbows and Dollies are the last two weeks of June and mid-August through October. The Kenai and Kasilof River both offer Alaskan trophy catches for you to bring home.
The Lower Kenai
The lower Kenai River can get quite busy during peak season, and power boats are allowed on that section of the river. If you would rather avoid the commotion, you can always fish along the beautiful Kasilof River. When you go trophy rainbow trout and, or Salmon fishing, you will also be able to take part in a wildlife tour in the middle of the Kenai River. Experience Halibut and Salmon fishing out of our Homer! We also offer a float plane fly-out for fishing and, or bear watching including a spectacular picturesque glacier fly-over. Why wouldn’t you stay with us at Soldotna’s, for a once-in-a-life stay in one of the best Kenai River fishing lodges!
FISHING MADE BETTER WITH SEASONED GUIDES
The Terrain
When you are taken out by a trained guide on your trip, you know you are in good hands. The licensed guides are well trained in identifying how to react to the variables in the Alaskan wilderness. Your guide will know where to go and how to handle changes in weather as they live in it every day. If you are out in the ocean for King Salmon and Halibut fishing while the skies begin to look angry and the waters become unwelcoming, they will know when to head back and find other weather permitting activities that may be available. Nobody wants to be caught out in a storm.Getting the best catches

When you come to Alaska, you are in search of the monster catch you have always wanted. Your fishing guide will know where those river monsters are hanging out and give you the best tips and tricks to get them on your line.
