VIBRANT ALASKA FALL FOLIAGE NEAR SOLDOTNA B&B
Visiting Alaska in September
There are countless crowd-pleasing things to do in Alaska in September, but the best ways to observe Soldotna’s vivid foliage is by embarking on a fishing, canoeing, or birding excursion led by a licensed, professional guide. Every autumn, the Kenai Peninsula’s lush forestry transforms into a gorgeous blend of marigold, kelly green, and amber—even in our peaceful backyard!Fall Fishing
Yes, Soldotna B&B Lodge rests alongside the teal Kenai River, but you might as well obtain a bird’s-eye view of this brilliant land from inside a float plan en route to a tranquil locale. Wolverine Creek and Crescent Lake are two of the most desirable fly-out fishing destinations in the world. The quintessential Alaska fall foliage that wholly encloses these bodies of water is exceptionally bright during autumn’s peak. All of our extensive, fully-customizable packages can also include several days on the world-famous Kenai River and the vastly underrated Kasilof River. Feisty silver salmon and trophy rainbow trout are two of the most common targets during September and October. The Kasilof River, in particular, welcomes thousands upon thousands of steelhead trout in the fall.Canoeing
Clever travelers who prefer the tranquility of this region’s backcountry typically explore the Kenai Peninsula’s interconnected canoe trails, particularly Swan Lake and Swanson River. These two hidden gems have been traversed on several occasions by your hosts, Steven and Monika, so feel free to ask about the best routes, wildlife hotspots, and picnic locales upon arrival. Both of these navigable canoe trails feature everything you’re hoping to find and so much more: snow-capped mountains, crystal-clear water, serene wildlife, and, of course, vibrant Alaska fall foliage.Birding
Birding (or “birdwatching”) is a fast-growing activity among outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers across North America, but we’ve been observing the nation’s rarest birds long before it became popularized. And luckily for you, we’ve pieced together two multi-day birding packages where you’ll likely spot more than 60 colorful birds. There’s no denying the awe-striking beauty of bald eagles, puffins, and owls, but there’s just something moving about spotting an endangered species in the wild. Oh, and each mid-day trek will include hours of colorful Alaska fall foliage.Top-Rated Hotels in Soldotna, Alaska

BIRDING IN ALASKA AT SOLDOTNA B&B LODGE
Birdwatching’s meteoric rise in popularity was a welcomed surprise here in the Last Frontier. We’re lifelong bird lovers here at Soldotna B&B Lodge, which is why created two unique birding in Alaska packages: Birder’s Bounty and Birder’s Brief One. We’re one of the only Alaska fishing lodges to offer birding packages, especially among Soldotna hotels. The experienced, professional guides here at Soldotna B&B Lodge steer eager birdwatchers into the pristine Alaskan wilderness via canoe, cruise ship, drift-boat, and, of course, by foot. Birding Tours
Birding (or birdwatching) is still a relatively new recreational activity. It wasn’t until the late 19th century that citizens began to appreciate the beauty of rare birds, rather than their flavor. There is no better place on Earth to birdwatch that the Last Frontier. As cameras became lighter and more advanced, birdwatching grew into a popular activity around the turn of the 21st century. The activity’s popularity hasn’t stopped growing in this golden age of technology. Alaskans have been observing birds in the wilderness since we can remember. They’re a part of our everyday lifestyle, and the Soldotna B&B Lodge is no different. We offer two unique birding packages: the three-night Birders’ Brief One and the five-night Birder’s Bounty. MUSHROOM AND BERRY PICKING IN SOLDOTNA
Soldotna B&B in Soldotna, Alaska, offers more than just fishing, and you can also go mushroom and berry picking. You’ll find a variety of wild berries and mushrooms throughout the late summer season and well into the fall! You’ll enjoy searching the forests of Soldotna Alaska.
Berries
Soldotna Alaska is a terrific place to search and gather wild berries! Blueberries, raspberries, currants, salmonberries, and huckleberries, are great for eating right off the bush or making preserves! After harvesting your share of berries, you can eat them on your way back to Soldotna B&B, or save them for baking or preserves. If you are planning on freezing them, we’ll share our secret: Single layer the berries on a cookie sheet and freeze them. Then place them in a container and back into the freezer, this will make them easier to remove from the container. Please note that berries are an essential food source for a variety of animals in our area. There’s a chance you’ll encounter these animals while you’re berry picking, so please stay alert to your surroundings! If you see animals, we ask you to be respectful, while staying safe. If possible, we urge you to leave quietly and find a different berry patch. If needed, we do understand you may have to defend yourself with pepper spray or a shotgun.
Mushrooms
In Soldotna Alaska, the thrill of big game hunting runs deep in any Alaskan blood! However, today we’re focusing on a different prey: mushrooms! Near Soldotna B&B, you’ll find boletes, morels and gilled mushrooms, and many more. Mushroom hunting can be a dangerous business; some mushrooms are lethal to humans! One of the challenges with identifying mushrooms is that their appearance changes dramatically as they age. When it first comes out of the ground, a baby mushroom looks like one you may buy at the store! At this stage, it’s easy to confuse an edible species with a poisonous one. The number of mushroom species doesn’t help you identify them either. There are thousands of mushroom species in Alaska alone. Unfortunately, many are inedible, but we do have some mushroom hunters and the season is approaching! So, whether you find mushrooms or it’s just a reason to spend more time outside, join us in Soldotna Alaska!
RIVER, SEA, AND AIR!
When you stay with us at Soldotna B&B and Lodge, one of the most beautiful Kenai River fishing lodges. We offer an assortment of rates and packages. As spring turns into summer, we would like to feature our river, sea and air package.
What Is Included in This Package?
It’s a six-nights-stay that includes breakfast every morning and lunches for every activities day. Your schedule will be filled with hours of fishing! You will experience eight to eleven hour-days of fishing. An experienced guide will accompany you, and you will have a tackle, bait, and gear for charters. When you come back on-site, you will have access to all cleaning, commercial vacuum packing and freezing of your catch. Each guest also receives two fish shipping boxes and complimentary use of rain gear and hip boots for charters if needed.
Where’s the Fish?
Kenai River fishing is known worldwide for its abundance of fish and the enormous sizes they can grow. Though fish in the Kasilof River is somewhat smaller, they are still very abundant. It is an all-around quieter experience, as there are fewer people so you can fish peacefully. The Kenai and Kasilof Rivers have four out of the five species of Pacific Salmon that return to spawn each season in Alaska, as well as rainbow trout, Dolly-Varden, and Steelhead. Peak times for Rainbows and Dollies are the last two weeks of June and mid-August through October. The Kenai and Kasilof River both offer Alaskan trophy catches for you to bring home.
The Lower Kenai
The lower Kenai River can get quite busy during peak season, and power boats are allowed on that section of the river. If you would rather avoid the commotion, you can always fish along the beautiful Kasilof River. When you go trophy rainbow trout and, or Salmon fishing, you will also be able to take part in a wildlife tour in the middle of the Kenai River. Experience Halibut and Salmon fishing out of our Homer! We also offer a float plane fly-out for fishing and, or bear watching including a spectacular picturesque glacier fly-over. Why wouldn’t you stay with us at Soldotna’s, for a once-in-a-life stay in one of the best Kenai River fishing lodges!
NOT YOUR TYPICAL SPRING BREAK
Spring break season is in full swing once March rolls around. Many will be packing swimwear and heading down to tropical sunny spots and beaches consumed by crowds. Rather than pushing your way through the shoulder to shoulder crowds and baking in the sun, take your trip north to Alaska. Our Soldotna fishing charters are at the ready to give you an exceptional spring break experience.
Change It Up
Not everyone is about the large crowds, loud music, and partying all week. Sometimes the best getaways are a calm day out on the water. Surround yourself with the Alaskan wilderness and cast a line. Reel in some incredible catches while enjoying the lapping water under your boat. Unlike the beaches in places like Florida and Cancun, you will have plenty of elbow room and not need to worry about rowdy college kids scaring all the fish away.
Better Than Palms
Though palm trees and ocean breezes are what most think of when they bring up spring break, the panoramas in Alaska are nothing short of breathtaking. Find yourself surrounded by beautiful mountain views, incredible bodies of water, and local wildlife that will leave you in awe. From towering moose to all of the incredible varieties of fish you have the change to pull in. There is an endless beauty when you head out on our Soldotna fishing charters.
