LATE-SEASON ALASKA FISHING TRIPS: Last Call For Anglers

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] With summer officially in the rearview mirror, we turn our gaze toward autumn’s peak here on the banks of the beautiful Kenai River. Despite dipping temperatures and changing leaves, there are still several weeks of prime fishing left on the calendar. Yes, the Kenai Peninsula’s dense forestry transforms into a colorful blend of marigold, kelly green, and emerald every autumn. But the main event is our fully-customizable Alaska fishing trips, which target silver salmon, rainbow trout, and a few other thriving species. And the best place in Soldotna, Alaska, to start and finish your day is at Soldotna B&B Lodge and Alaska Fishing Charters.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=”transparent” position=”center” up=”2″ down=”0″][blockquote text=”Our experienced, professional Alaska fishing guides will ensure that your well-deserved wilderness getaway is nothing short of flawless.” show_quote_icon=”yes”][vc_separator type=”transparent” position=”center” up=”3″ down=”0″][vc_column_text]
World-Class Alaska Fishing Trips
We offer something genuinely unique here in Soldotna: first-rate hospitality, a convenient location near dozens of restaurants, and, of course, world-class Alaska fishing trips. Today, we’re going to provide you with an in-depth look into the three species that we target in October: silver salmon, rainbow trout, and steelhead trout.
The Feisty Silver Salmon
As the years go by, more and more anglers specifically arrive in September and October to battle fierce, acrobatic Kenai and Kasilof River silver salmon. We offer dozens of customizable Alaska fishing trips here at Soldotna B&B Lodge, and our staff always recommend a late-season silver salmon excursion on the Kenai River. Our top-reviewed Kenai River lodge features 300 feet of private frontage as well as a sizable dock, so most Alaska fishing trips launch from here. But, we cannot blame you if a Kasilof River drift sounds like one heck of a fun time—because it is.
Football-Sized Rainbow Trout
The upper and middle Kenai River’s swarming rainbow trout are so large that we call them “footballs,” as the photo on the right illustrates. You won’t find a more productive fly fishing destination in the world as all of our late-season Alaska fishing adventures return to the lodge with memories (and photos) that will last a lifetime. While Kenai River rainbows typically sit in the two-to-six pound range, anglers often bait, hook, and reel in ten-pounders. In fact, a 13-pounder was caught right outside the fishing lodge as recently as last year. One of the less-talked-about aspects of our late-season Alaska fishing trips is that we occasionally spot wildlife during our journeys, including brown bears, bald eagles, and moose.
Walk-In Steelhead Trout Excursions
Yes, we offer guided drift boat excursions on the Kasilof River that target steelhead trout, but we recommend venturing into the bush en route to a secluded body of water. Some of the most popular mid-October Alaska fishing trips involve several hours of fly fishing at Deep Creek, Ninilchik River, or Anchor River. The DNR does not stock these rivers, so you’ll be reeling in fully-grown, all-natural lunkers. To ensure that they continue to thrive, steelhead fishing is strictly catch-and-release.
Selecting the Best Alaska Fishing Packages
Soldotna B&B Lodge remains one of the premier Alaska fishing lodges on the Kenai Peninsula thanks to our world-class guide services, idyllic location, and warm hospitality. Contrary to popular belief, October is the best time to fish in Alaska as the summer crowds have dispersed, the colors are vibrant, and the fish are always biting! SUMMERTIME SALTWATER ALASKA FISHING ADVENTURES

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The much-anticipated fishing season is finally upon us here at Soldotna B&B Lodge as we’re beginning to welcome groups of anglers from far and wide to our heavenly slice of the Kenai Peninsula. Most visiting anglers who visit Soldotna, Alaska, have been dreaming about catching a trophy king salmon since they were young, but one of the most overlooked fishing locales in our region is the crisp Pacific Ocean waters near Homer, Alaska. [/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=”transparent” position=”center” up=”2″ down=”0″][blockquote text=”Guests can hop aboard sturdy, state-of-the-art vessels in search of “barn-door” halibut, saltwater kings, rockfish, and many more delicious species. Summertime Alaska fishing adventures near Homer are incredibly tough to beat if you’re hoping to combine natural beauty, wildlife viewing, and, of course, unforgettable battles with the creatures from the deep blue.” show_quote_icon=”yes”][vc_separator type=”transparent” position=”center” up=”3″ down=”0″][vc_column_text] Here’s a quick rundown of what you can expect this summer during your well-deserved, annual Alaska fishing vacation to Soldotna B&B Lodge!
Saltwater Salmon
Many Alaska fishing adventures are geared toward king salmon because of their sheer size. Successfully baiting, hooking, and reeling in a monster king is a feeling unlike any other – it’s a moment that’s often mounted on a wall or framed on a mantle. You don’t have to venture onto the Kenai or Kasilof rivers to battle a king, silver, or pink salmon as they’re teeming inside the sapphire blue waters surrounding Homer. We typically troll for salmon during these oceanic excursions, but we occasionally jig in our favorite honey holes.
“Barn-Door” Halibut
Homer remains “The Halibut Fishing Capital of the World” as thousands of anglers trek to this faraway land to catch some of the largest flatfish in the world. While halibut weighing in over 200 pounds have been documented, we set our sights on those who weigh between 20 and 50 pounds. The halibut in this weight class are not only swarming inside Cook Inlet, but they’re the tastiest of the bunch. Bottom fishing is the method of choice in Cook Inlet, and we’ll be using baited hooks to lure these crafty flatfish.
Rockfish and Black Bass and Lingcod, Oh My!
The ugliest fish in Cook Inlet near Homer are – without a doubt – the tastiest species in the sea. Rockfish can be quite beautiful when they’re small and bright orange, but the whoppers that are teeming in our waters frequently vary in size, color, and shape. You won’t find better table fare than a rockfish hooked inside Cook Inlet. Lingcod, meanwhile, are terrifying to most as their sharp teeth and unique scale patterns make them look like real-life monsters. While black bass are certainly not overly ugly, they’re quite large in comparison to most bass species found across North America.
Mid-Summer Alaska Fishing Adventures
Our riverfront Alaska fishing lodge rests upon a quiet, scenic stretch of the Kenai River within walking distance of Soldotna’s best restaurants. We have the top-ranked Alaska fishing vacations on TripAdvisor, primarily because of our first-rate guiding services, affordable packages, and supreme hospitality. Soldotna B&B is a family-run lodge that is devoted to providing prospective anglers with ultimate Alaska fishing trips. Crescent Lake – Lake Clark National Park

Crescent Lake never gets old, no matter how many times we visit this natural paradise. This beautiful lake is not to be confused with the stunningly clear Crescent Lake in the Kenai Mountains near Cooper Landing. Depending on the season, you’ll have the opportunity to throw a line in for sockeye salmon, silver salmon, Dolly Varden, and lake trout. The flight from Soldotna crosses Cook Inlet to Lake Clark National Park, taking approximately 45 minutes in total. You’ll land smoothly on the turquoise Crescent Lake in the heart of the Chigmit Mountains. You’ll get a birds-eye view of the 10,000 foot tall Mount Redoubt on the fly-out. A professional fishing guide will greet you upon arrival. Brown bears often feed in the shallow waters on the perimeter of the lake, creating the ideal photo opportunity.

Wolverine Creek

If your goal is to get up-close-and-personal with a majestic brown bear, then Wolverine Creek is the ideal fly-out fishing adventure for you! The water is so clear on this secluded creek that you can see large schools of sockeye and silver salmon. This fly-out trip is quite crowded in the summer months but excessively beautiful in the fall. The 30-minute flight crosses Cook Inlet into the Big River Lakes region. Brown bears, and occasionally black bears, feed in the creek during spawning seasons. Wolverine Creek remains one of more distinctive Alaska fishing trips available.

Bear Viewing and Flightseeing

FISH TO CATCH THIS FALL ON THE KENAI RIVER

Fall’s peak is nearly here on the Kenai River in southcentral Alaska. Over the next handful of weeks, the river bend will transform from forest green to a meld of crimson, marigold, and amber. Soldotna Bed & Breakfast Lodge, home to premier Alaska fishing charters, is steps away from the rushing Kenai River, which is teeming with delicious salmon and beautiful trout. Eager anglers from all across the globe travel each year to the Kenai Peninsula for genuinely once-in-a-lifetime fishing expeditions. Soldotna is equally a world-class fishing lodge and a charming, riverside bed and breakfast. Start a brand new yearly fishing tradition by journeying to the salmon fishing capital of the world!

Silver Salmon

Get ready for the fight of your fishing life, because Alaskan silver salmon are large, feisty, and clever. When you choose the Soldotna Bed & Breakfast Lodge, you’re only steps from one of our Alaska fishing charters. The silver season lasts from mid-August through October. Silvers are widely known to locals as “the fall prince of salmon” because unlike kings, pinks, and sockeyes, they return to the Kenai and Kasilof River in the late summer to spawn.

Rainbow Trout

The Kenai River has some of the best rainbow trout fly fishing in the world. Locals call trophy rainbows “footballs” because of their unique shape. These beautiful critters usually weigh in around four pounds, but our guests have hooked 20-pounders. We also occasionally reel in 10-plus pound rainbows from our 300-foot private river frontage.

Steelhead

One of the unsurpassed Alaska fishing charters on the Kenai Peninsula is our fall steelhead tour on the nearby Kasilof River. Hop aboard a guided drift boat charter for an afternoon of native steelhead fishing. The steelheads in this region are entirely native to Alaska, which is extremely rare. This glacial-fed river is a bait-and-lure fishery because it’s quite silty.

Halibut

Halibut season seemingly never ends on the Kenai Peninsula. Our lucky guests reel in these 50-pound behemoths from opener through the end of the September near the quaint village of Homer, the “halibut fishing capital of the world.” While unlikely, some “barn door” halibut weigh hundreds of pounds, but the smaller 20 pounders are much tastier!

Alaska Fishing Charters

Anglers from all across the globe stay at the Soldotna Bed & Breakfast Lodge. They visit for the world-class fishing, but they fall in love with our charming river view guest rooms, hearty breakfasts, and scenic natural beauty. No other Alaska fishing charters in the Kenai and Soldotna area can match our caring service, experienced guides, and year-round activities!

PLANNING YOUR ALASKA FISHING ADVENTURE

An Alaska fishing vacation can be an epic adventure, but if you are not prepared, it could end in disaster. Alaska’s wilderness is always changing and can be very challenging terrain. Nobody wants to be in the Alaskan wilderness without the essentials and end up uncomfortable or in a potentially dangerous situation. Here are tips to help you have the best experience possible and keep you a happy angler on your visit to an Alaska fishing lodge.

Getting a Guide

When visiting Alaska, the vast landscapes and breathtaking views are an incredible sight, but don’t let it fool you. Alaska’s wilderness is an unpredictable place. This is why guides are essential for a successful trip. At Soldotna Bed and Breakfast Lodge, experienced guides are ready to take you out and get you to the best spots for an outstanding adventure. It is better to be out in the elements with someone who lives in them daily. They are trained and seasoned to the unpredictability of Alaska, so they know how to help you with all you need. Guides can also help you find the spots with prime fishing and give you tips on the most effective techniques to catch the local fish.

Gear Must-Haves

Having the gear you need can be crucial. You will always need the essentials and maybe a few spare sets of socks, but here is an Alaska fishing gear list with some important things to put in your suitcase.

  • Waterproof bags for laundry and anything you don’t want wet.
  • Polarized sunglasses.
  • Sunscreen.
  • Warm clothing (layers will be your best friend).
  • Rain gear and waterproof outerwear.
  • High-quality chest waders.
  • Fishing vest (optional).
  • Fingerless gloves and warm hat.
  • Properly-fitted waterproof boots.

These are essentials that should be packed along with typical items for trips, such as your regular hygienic products, lounge clothing, and so forth.

Don’t Leave These Behind

Items that you do not want to leave behind are your ticket, fishing license, and wallet with both cash and your cards. All of these items should be the first things packed in waterproof bags that you keep on you as to not lose it. In Alaska, fishing licenses are required for sports fishing, and you will need to purchase a King Salmon stamp to be eligible to fish for King Salmon. Both of these are available at the lodge.

If you have all of these items and you are ready to head out for some fantastic fishing. Soldotna Bed And Breakfast Lodge is a great place to find professional guides and spectacular lodging. You will be transported to the best fishing in Alaska for those monster catches you have been waiting for. So get your checklist ready and start packing, because your Alaska fishing lodge and epic fishing vacation is waiting for you.
